						<description><![CDATA[<DIV>Unfortunately we will have to close the cafeteria for probably one week due to unexpected maintenance that needs to be addressed immediately. </DIV> <DIV></DIV> <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV> <DIV>Because of this, we will not be able to provide any food items before school. For the next few days, cereal will be offered during nutrition and sandwiches will be offered at lunch. 						<description><![CDATA[<div align="center"><strong>SAFETY ALERT!!! </strong></div> <div align="center"><strong>April 11, 2012 </strong></div> <div></div> <div>&nbsp;</div> <div>Yesterday, between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m., two students were walking westbound on 18th Street towards Elvira Avenue when they were approached by three unknown adult males in a vehicle. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded a cell phone that one of the victims was holding. After obtaining the cell phone, the suspects drove westbound on 18th Street and northbound on Elvira Ave. Please be aware of this incident and that the suspects may still be in areas near surrounding schools. </div> ]]></description>

						<description><![CDATA[       <p class="p1" style="text-align: center; "><b>Notice of Friends of LACES Elections</b></p><p class="p1" style="text-align: left;">This is to advise that on Wednesday, June 13<span class="s1">th</span>, 2012 there will be elections for the Friends of LACES &nbsp;2012-2013 Board, for the positions of President(s) and Vice-Presidents (Technology, Athletics and Volunteers), at our regularly scheduled FOL meeting, 7:00 pm in the Library. Please consider serving. Two members can share any position.</p> <p class="p2">All parents of LACES Students are welcome to run for office and VOTE.</p> <p class="p2">In our effort to expand the Board in recent years and to get more people involved, we have expanded our Vice-President Positions. All positions are 2-year positions, though if you have a Class of 2013 graduate, mid-term elections can be held to replace you next June. VP&#8217;s are expected to attend and report at the monthly FOL meetings.</p> <p class="p2" style="text-align: center;"><b>President(s) (OPEN)</b></p> <p class="p2">President(s) (2 year term) &#8211; The president presides at regular meetings, co-signs checks, co-ordinates the work of officers and committees, oversees the FOL calendar and events, and is the primary liaison with LACES administration.</p> <p class="p2" style="text-align: center;"><b>Vice-President Positions (OPEN)</b></p> <p class="p2"><b>VP Technology (1 year term remaining)</b> &#8211; Works to oversee the school-wide technology plan. Duties include cochairing of the Technology Committee, support development of implementation plan for new Technology at LACES and report all current technology issues and plans to FOL Community.</p> <p class="p2"><b>VP Athletics (1 year term remaining)</b> &#8211; Works as a liaison to the Athletics Department. Duties include</p> <p class="p2">supporting funding, equipment and uniform purchases, communications, and other issues related to the various athletic teams and FOL involvement. May include helping AD to keep calendar updated.</p> <p class="p2"><b>VP of Parent Volunteers (2 year term)</b> &#8211; Organizes parent volunteer lists into a database system. Contacts, recruits, and coordinates parents for various events throughout the year as needed. Works closely with VP of fundraising to support project needs and post regular announcements to the e-group soliciting parent volunteers for various events throughout the school year.</p> <p class="p2" style="text-align: center;"><b>Vice-President Positions (NOT OPEN)</b></p> <p class="p2">VP Communications &#8211; Helps to organize communications from Friends of LACES to the students and parent community at LACES. Duties to include the development of the FOL newsletter, creation of informational flyers, distribution of Quarterly Mailers and management of the FOL e-Group system.</p> <p class="p2"><b>VP Fundraising</b> &#8211; Works to help develop fundraising plans and events for the school year. Duties to include budgets and economic goals for fund raising events, reviews fund raising projects and organizes volunteers for each event as needed.</p> <p class="p2"><b>VP Teacher Liaisons</b> &#8211; Works with the teaching staff to bring teacher/department requests and issues to the board. &nbsp;Participates in organization of teacher-to-FOL communications (forms, staff meetings etc) and collects departmental requests for supported finances.</p> <p class="p2"><b>VP Hospitality</b> &#8211; Helps to organize and coordinate hospitality throughout the school year. Duties include</p> <p class="p2">organization of monthly parent Coffee-Stop meetings, teacher breakfasts, and special breakfasts, lunches or snacks for specific meetings and other events related to student or teacher/administrator hospitality needs.</p> <p class="p2">If you are interested in nominating yourself or another parent, please use the attached nomination form into the Friends of LACES mailbox located in the main office.
