“Let us remember, at this dawn of a new century, that history is not over.
We live in a continually incomplete history.
The lesson of our unfinished humanity is that
when we exclude we are made poorer,
and when we include we are made richer.
None of us will ever be able to find the humanity within us
unless we are able to find it first in others.”
- Carlos Fuentes -

Above excerpt has been a favorite quote of my former supervisor, Mr. James Gwin, one of the greatest school administrators from whom I have learned to broaden my perspective on the mission of a public school educator.

As a prestigious magnet school with highly motivated students from all over the Los Angeles County, representing so many different cultures, LACES is truly a community that embraces and celebrates diversity. It is definitely the place to be enriched by “including” everyone in pursuing academic excellence. I am delighted to be a part of this outstanding community.

I had been an assistant principal for almost nine years - three and a half years at R. L. Stevenson Middle School and five years at John F. Kennedy High School. My experience from both schools had been great! I have had the privilege of working with the finest group of faculty, staff, parents and students. Prior to being a school administrator, I had worked at Belmont Cluster office (which would be equivalent to current Local District office) as the Instructional Advisor. I also coordinated various instructional and support programs such as the Bilingual program, Title I program, Gifted program, IMPACT program, and Testing program. As an art teacher, I had the most rewarding experience at Reseda High School and Berendo Middle School for six years.

I started as a pre-med, biology major at UCLA with the love of art at heart.
Yes, as you might have guessed already, I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in art and have never regretted that decision. During my college years, I was involved in a tutoring project at middle/high schools in Los Angeles area and got a taste of pure satisfaction in teaching children. Without any hesitation, I decided to go into education and enrolled myself in a teacher education program. I received my teaching credential and Master’s degree in education from UCLA and have enjoyed teaching great young minds and providing support for dedicated group of teachers since 1988. In order to provide only the best in supporting teachers, I went back to school and received a Doctor of Education degree from again, UCLA in educational leadership.

I am truly honored to be the Principal at LACES, one of the top schools in the nation. Let’s work together to continue the legacy of excellence in academic achievement and celebration of diversity.

On a personal note - I am married and have two children, a teen-age son who is an aspiring writer and a fabulous musician and a nine-year-old daughter whose motto is - “Doing less than your best is a sin.”
