 Due Day 1 NEXT WEEK (first time we meet after the holiday):  please bring YOUR SCIENCE TEXTBOOK.

 

Due Day 2:day 2 is the second time I see you after the holiday.

Due next week 2:  Please bring all the materials for your project in a bag so you can work on this during your period including setting up the project.  Again your project has to be done in class.  This is a major part of your 5 week progress report.  Please continue to be responsible and take care of business you need to take care of.  Thank you to those of you who always do without reminding you of it. :)

    

    Hw#2: Finish your chpt 10 worksheet B and turn it in as you walk in.

 

HW#3: Bring TWO index cards filled with chpt 10 notes.  It is ok to write answers for the layered book also.  You need to know everything on the worksheet especially multiple choice questions and the questions that begin with the word "match".  It means matching questions.. The layered book:Please bring it with you.

 (each layer is each section of the book, did you know that?)

You will be asked to write 5 things you learned with supporting evidences. 

 

For example: I learned that strong wave is caused by strong wind.  Evidence of this is winter beach where there is presence of strong storm.  Winter storm causes strong wave due to strong wind. 

Another example:  I learned that the mudflow can be caused by previous summer’s fire.  The evidence of this is there is severe mudflow in the forest area that had fire previous summer because trees can not hold down soil nor absorb water.

Since so many of you asked, here's the procedure for the "oobleck" or "slime" we made today.  It comes out better if you double the material.

Materials needed:

1/2 teaspoon of Borax (can get from grocery)

water (tap)

food coloring.

2 plastic ziplock bags

1/4 cup of glue (this can be a bottle if material was doubled)

Procedure:  

1. In one plastic bag add 1/2 tsp of Borax and add 1/2 cup of water and mix well.

2. In the other plastic bag, add 1/4 cup of glue, add food coloring, and 1/4 cup of water and mix well.

3. Pour mixture from #1 into #2 misture

3.  mix well with your hand for about 10 minutes.

4. Discard the water and play it with your hand for another 5 minutes until you get the texture you like.

Day 1: no homework due

The test is postponed until first day your return from the Veteran's day as you voted. On the day of exam please prepare the packet to turn in. You may bring an index card. Ch 8 packet (Pliny's Route on top, underneath it should be volcano lab report,underneath that is completed ch 8 worksheet. No homework day 1 next week! 

Day 2:  Our family science night is this Thursday.  As it is with any science labs, we are in need of lab materials.  Would you consider bring them by Wednesday and receive extra credit?

-Roll of plastic table covering (party supply store)

- white glue in a gallon container

-many rinsed empty soda cans

- eggs  boiled & peeled (one dozen at a time please)

-Rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol-can get them in drug store)

-18 oz plastic cups (many)

   See me if you have printer challenges.  

Day 3: Please bring completed worksheet p116-126 .Bring one empty 16-20oz plastic bottle for the lab.  One per group as you  discussed with your lab partners.  

What type of volcano is this and why? Please show evidences of your answer. Give your best guess and provide your reasoning on a sheet of paper.

The worksheet should say P116-126. Please remember before you press "print" button, the page numbers you need to enter are "120-130" This will print out worksheet pages p116-126.

2. Ratio of Earth's structuresUse 2 sheets of paper and tape or glue them long way ("Hot dog style")
Use the ratio we've calculated and draw a line
If the crust was 2cm thick, what is the thickness of mantle and core?
Please draw one continuous line and label 3 structures of the earth and the thickness of each in cm. (core, mantle, and core)

Please do not worry about 2004-2013 plate tectonic homework for now until it is announced in the class. I will let you know when turnitin.com issues are resolved. Still. please FINISH THE TIME LINE AND STORE IT IN YOUR COMPUTER to turn it in when it is announced. You had a lot of time for this and stay ahead of the game by finishing it. :)

Day 1: This is only for those that did not finish the outline p190-192 textbook. Remember the skeleton outline you copied from the board. Add the details. No need to turn this in if you turned it in last week. No sticker for this one.

Day 2: Pangea project due- Please see me if you have computer problems BEFORE the day it is due. Bring a flash drive and I will help you print it if you don't have a printer or having problem with a printer.

Expect life's best for yourself by first doing your best work for this class. This is the key to getting most out of life. Learn to overcome doing homework according to your feelings. NO ONE including myself likes doing homework.

Mr. Arthur Rubenstein, was a very famous piano player. (pianist) Though he was superb at playing piano, did you know he didn't like practicing? But. he did it any way. Doing homework is like practicing piano. Write your own story by learning to do your best work no matter how much you do not like to do homework. This is a key to getting most out of your lives.

b.The plate tectonic and Pangea test will be next week day 3 and I will be reviewing in class day 1 & It will be worth 100 pts. Index card is ok
c. All make up work from 5 week progress report is due next week day 1. From now on, no name no credit and no other make up opportunity will be given.

3. Textbook p29 #2-7 Questions and answers. This is in preparation of all labs we will be doing so, we are addressing safety which is utmost importance before we begin them.

Day 1: Syllabus parent signature and all the forms attached to the syllabus.
See attached syllabus and forms if you lost them.

The syllabus and the text book will be given out by day 2. The book should be kept at home with a cover until the end of the year. We have a class set of books. :)

Day 2: Syllabus quiz-Please review what we went over in class. May bring ONE index card 3 x 5" front and back hand written only for the quiz. May use a notebook paper same size if no index card. Please write only things that you have difficult time remembering.
