Day 2 please see questions below and follow direction.  I selected from questions that you selected.

Homework:  Testable questions.

“Does soil, mud, and sand affect plant growth?

a.                   What is being compared here?  i.e. types of material for plant growth (soil, mud, and sand)

b.                  If you cannot compare, then, rewrite the question and make it testable.

But, if  it can be compared, please write a concise and simple hypothesis.

  1. .                  Do parents affect your social life?

    a. difficult to compare parents  not an experiment

    b.                  Rewrite: can not

    2.   Do timers affect people to become nervous?

    a. comparable? yes

    3.                  Does watching 5 hrs of TV affect your brain?
    4.                  Does playing heavy metal music affect plant growth?

So, you can use any reputable website to find your experiment.  Remember, you can not copy them since it will show up on turnitin.com.  This means everything has to be done in your own words.  As you well know if it is copied you will not be given any credit meaning you will earn a zero point.

 B. Parent signature of your 5 week progress report.  This should be glued to your notebook as item #10. Title should be "5 week progress report:  parent signature"

Please remember that those of you that earned poor grades that are due to poor marks on the composition notebook including your warm-ups, homework journals and your final lab report, we will be spending next week going over how to improve your lab reports AGAIN including how to set up your independent and dependent variables (which axis to use) for the graph.  You will also have opportunities to rewrite your lab reports in order to prepare your first investigation story telling video project.  I am adding next sentences since I informed you in class.  I will be available during lunch next week except Friday for your questions and concerns. then the written report grade (poor) will be dropped in place of your video grade.  I STRONGLY suggest you ask questions if you have them and work on your lab report dilligently to make it your best.

Please do not start taping your video until you have rewritten the reports so that your final video has a great chance of earning an "A" unless you have earned a perfect mark.  You will be given time to do this mostly in classroom.  Please write a detailed plan of what you want to do.  Then prepare all the materials and set up for your taping.  This way you only have to tape few takes.  Taping can be done with your smartphones, smart pads, computers or even video camera.    Your project should not be more than 5 minutes.  You received guidelines on this video project this week.  A detailed rubrics will be available next week.  Please see me if you have any concerns or questions.

To all our veterans past and present: Thank you for your sacrifice and your families' sacrifice to keep our country safe. Hence, keeping all of us safe.  I am reminded daily of your sacrifice every time I see the flag in front of our school.  Happy Veteran's Day!

Dear Parents:
My sincere "thank you" for a phenomenal success of family science night.  We had twice as many families attending this year attested by the worksheets that were turned in.  That is just counting my students Those of you who weren't able to come we missed you Those of you who donated materials and  who came in last minute (2 hrs before) asking if I needed any help, my sincere gratitude for your generosity.  Without your help, our most popular "slime station" would have been closed after first 30 minutes. You have touched my heart! The success of this event was due to your generous heart, our fellow science teachers' generous donation of their time, families' taking time to bring their children, curiosities  and presence our attending students and families, and our hard working students and the support of our administration and especially of our maintenance crew.

To my students:  Thank you for staying after school and sweeping the hallway, setting up the tables. Thank you for attending, you were AMAZING to watch, especially when your curiosities kicked it. I hope you always remember the excitement of that moment in science whether it was watching the moon through Mr. Laderman's telescope for the first time or watching bubbles float over dry ice or watching salt water rainbow.Thank you to those of you who attended every lunch meetings, made sure all the materials were there, practiced your stations and studied all the materials that were given to you and sounded REAL smart! :). Thank you especially for cleaning up after the event.  Some of you were so resourceful, it was a pleasure watching and guiding you.  You were also AMAZING!!

If I missed thanking anyone please forgive me. Thank you. I enjoyed every moment of event preparation and watching and observing everyone having fun and learning science!!!
You all ROCK!!

Sincerely,
Ms. Chung
