Actividad de puntos extras - valor posible: 30 puntos
Para entregarse la última sesión de la semana próxima
If you choose to do this activity, you will demonstrate your understanding of the use of possessive pronouns.
First, gather a variety of possessions: some should belong to you and some to a family member. Take a close up photo of these. Then take photos of at least 2 items that belong to the whole family (the house or apartment, the car, the living room, the TV…) Choose items with which you are familiar in Spanish. Make sure some of the chosen items are plural (earrings, shoes etc.)
Take or find photos of the chosen family member and of your family.
Print your photos in a large format.
Put your photos on a small poster. Identify the people and the possessions in Spanish, but DO NOT use the possessive adjective or pronoun when referring to the objects.
For example:
Ella es mi hermana. Se llama ___________.
Ésta es mi familia. Él es mi padre (papá), __________. Ella es mi madre (mamá) ____________. etc.
objects:
la blusa los zapatos la casa el llavero la mochila etc.
ON A SEPARATE PIECE OF PAPER, or an index card, write brief sentences using the possessive pronoun to identify the owners of each possession (8-10 items.) Follow the MODELO:
- La blusa es mía.
- Los zapatos son suyos. (If they belong to your family member.)
- La casa es nuestra.
- etc.
In class, you will show your photos. We will ask you to whom the different objects belong:
¿De quién(es) es / son …?
You will respond using the structure of your sentences and pointing to photos or to yourself as appropriate.

Thanksgiving / family project for extra credit: up to 50 points (30 for poster; 20 for presentation.)
The object of the assignment is to become acquainted with typical Thanksgiving vocabulary in Spanish, as well as reviewing family expressions.
POSTER (up to 30 points to be applied to your written work grade): Make a small poster (around the size of legal paper would be okay.) Take and print one large photo of you and your family at Thanksgiving dinner. Take a few close up photos of food on the table. It's okay if it's not "typical." Place the photos on your poster and use your textbook, a dictionary or the internet (best option) to find words in Spanish to identify the people and foods in your poster. If you prefer, you can download images of typical Thanksgiving food items online and print those instead.
Using the following template, write about at least 3 family members, including yourself:
Yo me llamo (nombre.) A mí me gusta (mucho) (actividades favoritas.) Soy muy (descripción.) El Día de Acción de Gracias (on Thanksgiving Day,) (write in Spanish what you do.) Remember to use the present tense "yo" form for the last part. (Como mucho, practico español, veo los partidos de fútbol americano en la tele, etc.)
Él se llama (nombre.) Es mi (relación familiar.) En su tiempo libre (in his free time), le gusta (actividades favoritas.) Es muy (descripción.) El Día de Acción de Gracias (on Thanksgiving Day,) (write in Spanish what he does.)
Ella se llama (nombre.) Es mi (relación familiar.) En su tiempo libre (in her free time) le gusta (actividades favoritas.) Es muy (descripción.) El Día de Acción de Gracias (on Thanksgiving Day,) (write in Spanish what she does.)
PRESENTATION (up to 20 points to be applied to your participation grade): This part is optional. If you choose to do it, you must return to class with 3 of your brief descriptions memorized. It must not be obvious that you are reading them. Please don't waste class time with a halting, unprepared presentation. In addition to describing 3 family members, identify at least 5 foods on your poster in Spanish. Memorize them! :)
