Dear Parents and Students,
The Physical Education Department would like to welcome you to L.A.C.E.S. We are proud of our staff. They are: Mr. Donald Nobles, Ms. Teresa Fields, Ms. Toni Harris, Mr. Leonard Loo, Ms. Tanya Asher and Mr. Benjamin Chaniwa.
The information below is to acquaint you and the students with the Physical Education structure and what will be expected of them. The students will be divided into classes by 1.) physical ability, 2.) game skills, 3.) age and grade level.
THE FOLLOWING ACTIVITIES WILL BE OFFERED THIS FALL AND SPRING:

RULES FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES
| 1. | Classes will meet promptly at 8:23, 10:05, 12:07 and 1:36. Students will be expected to be dressed in the required P.E. Uniform, seated in roll call order and ready for class. Roll call must be taken the first fifteen minutes of the period. |
| 2. | Tardiness will be reflected in the student’s grade. Three tardies per grading period constitute a “U” in work habits on the report card. |
| 3. | NO food, drink, candy or gum is allowed on the P.E. Fields, the Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Multi-Purpose Room, Weight Room and Locker Room at anytime. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| 4. | ALL BUS RULES MUST BE OBSERVED! |
| 5. | Everyone is expected to wear: 1.) Properly tied tennis shoes and athletic socks, 2.) Blue LACES gym shorts, and 3.) Gray LACES t-shirts. Students who do not wear the proper P.E. Uniform will NOT be allowed to participate and will receive a FAIL for the day. |
| 6. | Swimmers will be required to wear the proper swim attire set by the instructor. (Students taking the swimming unit will receive additional instructions and requirements.) |
| 7. | NO cell phones, PDA’s, electronic games, radios, tape decks, CD players, skateboards, roller blades, scooters or valuable items from home should be brought to your P.E. class. If these items are brought to class they will be taken away! FRIDAY ACTIVITY DAY is the only day that balls from home may be brought to the P.E. field. Any ball from home must be in a plastic bag or back pack. |
| 8. | Students are NOT allowed to leave the P.E. / Athletic Complex or area without a PASS. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| 9. | All students are to take care of personal problems, (bathroom, drinks of water, errands, etc.) before or after class. |
| 10. | Enter and leave class in an orderly manner. Running horse-play and screaming is NOT acceptable behavior. Do not leave class without a teacher’s permission. Make sure you line up behind the designate line, door or gate at the end of the period. |
| 11. | Students must bring a note from a parent to be excused from Physical Education. Any excuses over two days must have a doctor’s note and be approved by the school nurse. |
| 12. | Your teachers expect good sportsmanship at all times. Foul language will NOT be tolerated. |
| 13. | Any student who is NOT in class will not receive credit for that day. Make-up work is available from your teacher upon request. |
| 14. | All make-up work must be turned into your teacher by Friday of the week PRIOR to grade week. |
| 15. | NO hanging on any nets or basketball rims. |
| 16. | Do not move the benches under the basket for slam dunking. |
| 17. | Football may be played on the grass P.E. field only when available and authorized. |
| 18. | Backpacks are not allowed in the GYMNASIUM or the LOCKER ROOM. Backpacks and valuables are to be left in the student’s HALL LOCKER. |
| 19. | Students will have a (5) minute dressing time after the passing bell rings. Then the locker room will be cleared and the doors locked. There will be a (10) minute shower dress time at the end of class. Showers are optional. Students who want to make use of the showers must provide their own towel from home. |
| 20. | The last P.E. Class of the week the student must take the P.E. Uniform home to launder and return ON TIME for use the following week. |
GRADING POLICY
| 1. | Students must wear the complete P.E. Uniform to get full class credit. |
| 2. | NOT dressing equals 3 “Points Off”. |
| 3. | NO TENNIS SHOES or SOCKS equals 1 “Point Off”. |
| 4. | NO LACES P.E. GYM SHORTS equals 1 “Point Off”. |
| 5. | NO LACES P.E. GYM SHIRT equals 1 “Point Off”. |
| 6. | 7 “Points Off” equals “U” in Work Habits per 10 week grading period. |
| 7. | 10 “Points Off” equals “U” in both Work Habits and Cooperation in a 10 week period. |
| 8. | 11 or more “Points Off” will lower the student’s letter grade. |
| 9. | Participation, sportsmanship and trying = “B” grade. |
| 10. | “B” requirements plus highly skilled = “A” grade. |
| 11. | 3 Tardies equal “U” in Work Habits per 10 week period. |
| 12. | 5 or more Tardies equal “U” in both Work Habits and Cooperation in a 10 week period. |
| 13. | Not dressing, not participating, not trying or truancy equal “C”, “D” or “FAIL” grade. |
| 14. | Special classes may vary in their grading policies. |

PHYSICAL EDUCATION STANDARDS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
| 1. | The student will be competent in many movement activities. (Demonstrating various athletic skills such as throwing, catching, running and batting etc…) |
| 2. | The student will understand how and why one moves in a variety of situations and will use this information to enhance his her skills. (Understand and apply more advanced movement and game strategies) |
| 3. | The student will achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. (To improve and maintain body composition. To improve the student’s physical fitness, flexibility, muscular endurance, muscular strength and aerobic capacity.) |
| 4. | The student will exhibit a physically active lifestyle and will understand that physical activity provides opportunities for enjoyment, challenge and self-expression. |
| 5. | The student will demonstrate responsible personal behavior while participating in movement activities and understand the importance of respect for others. (Practicing good sportsmanship while socializing with one’s peer group.) |
| 6. | The student will understand the relationship between the history and culture of games, sport, play and dance. |
| 7. | The student will obtain knowledge in the various rules of different games and sports. |
| 8. | The student will become aware of the value of good nutrition, caloric intake and how it affects the body. |
| 9. | The students will be able to participate in various sports activities by putting their skills and knowledge of the rules together. |
PERFORMING ARTS STANDARDS – DANCE
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
| 1. | Use dance technique to demonstrate choreographic principles. |
| 2. | Use the vocabulary of dance in verbal and written analyses of specific dances. |
| 3. | Discuss dance movement elements, using appropriate movement vocabulary. |
| 4. | Create choreography that demonstrates originality, form, technique and structures of movement. |
| 5. | Create and demonstrate dance elements and skills in improvisation, student choreography and established choreography. |
