Austin Moore wins Competition

Congratulate 12th Grader Austin Moore of the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies for winning the Finals of Original Oratory at the 30th annual National Debate Invitational at Stanford University on January 17th, 2016, with an unblinking speech ("Let's Get Gangsta") decrying the cultural ignorance that bedevils the United States.

Great job to the LACES Mock Dawks. LACES has excelled as one of the strongest teams in the county. One of our senior high teams finished 2nd in the Mock Trial Competition while the other team made it to the Sweet 16. Our Middle School team also excelled by making it to the Elite 8. In addition Chelsea Cantos and Jared Stone won individual attorney awards.

Congratulations to our very own Rachel Groberman (12th Grade). Today during her AP Environmental Science Class, representatives from Nordstrom surprised Rachel with the announcement that she was one of 80 students in the nation to receive a $10,000 college scholarship and a Mac AirBook.

Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein is a 32-year-old theoretical astrophysicist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a graduate of LACES.

Seventh Graders Kelly Chang and Anastasia Papyrani won the second and third place prizes in the DWP Art Competition about conserving water. Kelly won $75 and Anastasia won $50.

LACES Speech and Debate Team members Ruby Scanlon (9th grade) and Julia Dworetzky (10th grade) placed 1st and 2nd in the 2015 Spring Jewish Girls Congress Tournament held April 23rd. They debated whether schools should be allowed to use social media to determine students' eligibility for admission.
